As my students have been collaborating with one another, their commitment, perseverance and overall excitement has been contagious. They have learned the important process of communicating their ideas, considering other’s opinions, and how to collectively collaborate toward a single goal. These skills are essential to real world endeavors and are more powerful because the culminating result (their song performed by professional musicians) cannot be taught in a regular classroom.

The Dick & Jane Project is a powerful use of educational empowerment for the students they work with. The students that participated with in this project at St. Mary Magdalene not only became authors of their written voice but also song writers, musicians & filled with the pride of producing something cool that is theirs to share with the world.
